ER14 - Failed to Read Hopper/Heatsink Thermocouple

A few easy steps to check the hopper or heatsink thermocouple status and resolve the ER14 error message on the Filament Maker TWO.

The hopper assembly attached to the barrel of the Filament Maker TWO has a dedicated thermocouple. It monitors the temperature to ensure the hopper or heatsink is operating correctly and maintaining safe processing conditions. When the thermocouple cannot be read by the software, the system cannot guarantee safe operation and displays the ER14 error.

Step 1: Check the thermocouple connection

The thermocouple is connected to the hopper thermocouple port at the top of the mainboard near the barrel.

ISO_7010_W012 Turn OFF the Filament Maker TWO and remove the power plug.
  1. If a hopper is installed, remove the hopper from the top plate by turning it anti-clockwise.
  2. The heatsink does not need to be removed for this procedure.
  3. Remove the top plate of the Filament Maker TWO by unscrewing the top screws using the Allen key supplied in the maintenance kit.
  4. Locate the thermocouple cable leading to the connector on the mainboard.
  5. Check the following:
    • Is there any visible damage to the thermocouple?
    • Is the connector properly seated in the mainboard?
  6. Reconnect or reseat the thermocouple if necessary.

Step 2: Replace the thermocouple

If the thermocouple is connected correctly but is still not functioning, it may have failed internally. In this case, the thermocouple should be replaced.
