Two puller wheels

There are technically two puller wheels: the right side is motorized and is what we usually refer to as the puller wheel, the left one assists and turns but is not motorized.

The left one can be changed easily with a simple Allen key, however the right one needs some extra steps to make sure it is positioned well. You receive both wheels in the Maintenance kit pictured below along with tools and other consumables.

Steps:

1. Ensure the machine is turned OFF and the extrusion area is cool and safe.

2. Open the door. It's easier to access the puller wheel set screw if the tensioner is out of the way. Use a common washing or masking tape to secure the tensioner up and away from the puller wheel.

2 open door 2.5 tape

Note: The tape must be removed (step 10) before restarting the machine, as the machine calibrates it's position after every start up. If the tensioning rod is calibrated while taped, spooling will be impossible.

3. The shaft the puller wheel rests on has a flat side. This is difficult to see at first but visible. Rotate the right puller wheel so that the set screw is facing southeast, around 4:30 on a clock face.

4. Loosen the set screw using the 1.5mm Allen key.

5. Slide the puller wheel off by hand and remove in a forward motion. It's easer if you push down on the puller wheel lever on the left side with your left hand.

6. The set screw needs to be changed. Unscrew it from the old puller wheel and add it to the new puller wheel from the maintenance kit.

7. Slide the replacement puller wheel on the shaft, and once again align the set screw with the flat side of the shaft. This is easiest to access when the flat side, the set screw, and the Allen key is aimed at 4 o'clock. Screw it in a little bit so the puller wheel will not turn separate from the shaft.

8. Now that the puller wheel is aligned with the shaft, it also needs to align with the left wheel. Gently pull it forward or push it backward to align its position with the left wheel. This will ensure material can run through it.
9. Finally, tighten the puller wheel set screw, it should be able to handle some resistance.

10. Remove the tape and close the door.
