Filament Maker X10 – Filament Sensor, Conveyor, Puller, and Positioner Setup

This article covers filament guiding, conveyor and puller operation, puller force adjustment, and positioner setup to help maintain stable filament handling and consistent extrusion during operation.

Filament Sensor

The cooling path contains material guides connected to the conveyor bracket.

These guides help maintain the correct filament position as it passes through the Filament Sensor.

Guiding the Filament

  1. Ensure the conveyor bracket is open to allow the material to cool on top of the conveyor belt.
  2. When the material is extruding with a visually consistent diameter, close the conveyor bracket.
  3. Adjust the horizontal filament guide so that the guiding feet do not touch the conveyor belt.

Conveyor Wheel

The conveyor wheel guides the filament back toward the machine and helps maintain consistent strain on the filament.

  1. Guide the filament into the gap between the conveyor wheel and wheel cover.
  2. When the extrusion is stable and degradation-free for 5 minutes, guide the material under the filament tensioner.
  3. Carefully guide the material back toward the positioner.

 Opening the Puller Wheels

The puller wheels can be opened manually to thread the filament.

  1. Press down gently on the lever to separate the puller wheels.
  2. Thread the filament through the puller.
  3. Release the lever.

Adjusting Puller Force

Rotate the thumb screw:

  • Clockwise to increase the force applied by the puller wheels.
  • Anticlockwise to reduce the force.

Use the tension indicator to achieve repeatable results.

💡 Tip: Adjust the puller force carefully. Excessive force can affect filament handling and extrusion stability.

 Operating the Positioner

 Positioner Adjustments

The positioner has two main adjustments:

  1. Guiding arm
  2. Friction wheel

Guiding Arm

Use the lever to slide the positioner guiding arm back and forth to the desired position.

Tighten the small knob to secure the position.

Friction Wheel

Use the large knob to increase or decrease the tension applied by the filament friction wheel.

Adjust the friction wheel as required to maintain appropriate filament handling during spooling.
