Filament Maker X10 – How to Spool Filament

Learn how to correctly route and spool filament after the extrusion process has stabilized.

Only begin spooling once the filament has been stable for at least 5 minutes.

Step 1 – Start Spooling

Start the spooling procedure from the touchscreen.

Guide the filament from the conveyor wheel, under the Hall sensor, and back toward the spooling area.

⚠️ Important: Do not pull the filament with excessive force. The filament must be able to move freely through the system. Excessive tension can affect sensor readings and the spooling process.

Step 2 – Guide the Filament Through the Positioner

Guide the filament through the positioner hole and then through the tensioner arm friction wheel.

Step 3 – Feed the Empty Spool

Take the end of the filament and feed it through the pilot hole of the empty spool.

Step 4 – Lock the Spool

Slide the spool completely toward the back of the spooling chamber.

Push the spool against the stop pad of the locking winder.

The mechanism will automatically unlock and the jaws will extend to grip the spool.

Step 5 – Verify Filament Routing

Check that the filament is running correctly through the entire system.

Place the spool onto the spool holder.

The spool should begin rotating as the spooling process starts.

Step 6 – Monitor Spooling

Continue monitoring the filament and spool while the machine is operating.

Ensure that the filament remains correctly positioned through the:

  • Conveyor wheel.
  • Hall sensor.
  • Positioner.
  • Tensioner arm.
  • Spool.

Step 7 – Stop Spooling

When the spool is full, select Stop Spooling on the Filament Maker X10 touchscreen.

The spool will stop rotating.

Step 8 – Lock the Spool Holder

Push the spool against the back of the X10 spool holder.

Turn the spool holder clockwise until you hear a click.

The winder will automatically lock the spool holder in the closed position.

Step 9 – Remove the Spool

Remove the finished spool from the spool holder.

Cut the filament end and secure the filament as required.

⚠️ Important: Do not switch the machine OFF immediately after removing the spool. Complete the required post-extrusion procedure first.
