Filament Maker X10 – How to Start an Extrusion
Follow these steps to safely start an extrusion on the Filament Maker X10.
Before starting, make sure you have sufficient purging material available and know what material is currently inside the machine.
⚠️ Important: Before operating the Filament Maker X10, read the Safety Instructions article and make sure you understand the emergency shutdown procedure.
Step 1 – Power On
Power ON the Filament Maker X10 and wait for the touchscreen to display the main menu.
Step 2 – Select the Material Preset
From the main menu, select the appropriate:
- Material preset, or
- Purging preset
The correct selection depends on the material currently inside the machine and the material you intend to process.
💡 Factory condition: The X10 is supplied from the factory with PLA material inside the extrusion system.
Press Start Extrusion to begin heating the machine.
⚠️ Hot nozzle: The extrusion system and nozzle become extremely hot during operation. Avoid contact with the extrusion area.
Step 3 – Install the Extrusion Bib
Install the extrusion bib before extrusion begins.
The bib helps protect the filament sensor and puller wheel from degraded or unstable extrusion material.
Step 4 – Allow Automatic Extrusion to Begin
Once the heat-up procedure is complete, the machine will automatically begin extruding material.
⚠️ Burn hazard: Extruded material and the nozzle can become extremely hot. Keep away from the extrusion area while the extrusion procedure begins.
Step 5 – Stabilize the Extrusion
Monitor the extrusion closely.
Continue monitoring until the extrusion is:
- Constant.
- Stable.
- Free from obvious irregularities.
Maintain stable extrusion for at least 5 minutes before continuing.
