Filament Maker X10 – Inspecting and Replacing the Nozzle
The nozzle should be inspected regularly for excessive residue, clogging, polymer build-up, and signs of wear.
Replace the nozzle when it is worn, damaged, clogged, or when a different nozzle diameter is required.
⚠️ Important: This procedure involves hot components and electrical hazards. Follow the procedure carefully and use the required PPE and tools.
Tools Required
- Heat-resistant gloves ×2
- 2.5 mm (7/64") Allen key ×1
- 21 mm (13/16") wrench ×2
Parts Required
- Replacement nozzle ×1
- Nozzle gasket ×1
- Nozzle cover ×1, optional
Preparation
Before removing the nozzle:
- Finish with a recommended safe material inside the machine:
- 3devo PLA
- 3devo HDPE
- DevoClean MidTemp
- Stop the extrusion process.
- Turn off all moving systems.
- Remove the conveyor.
- Move the fans away from the nozzle.
- Install the extrusion bib.
Always use heat-resistant gloves when accessing the extrusion area while the machine is turned on.
Remove the Existing Nozzle
The nozzle removal procedure requires access to the nozzle panel and barrel.
The nozzle heater must be heated according to the material inside the machine:
| Material | Heater 4 |
|---|---|
| 3devo HDPE | 120–180°C |
| 3devo PLA | 110–180°C |
| DevoClean MidTemp | 130–180°C |
⚠️ Important: Heaters 1, 2, and 3 must remain OFF during this procedure.
If the nozzle is stuck, gradually increase the temperature in 10°C increments until it can be loosened.
Use the 21 mm wrench to loosen the nozzle anticlockwise, then remove it by hand once loosened.
Remove remaining material from the nozzle and die head opening before installing the replacement nozzle.
Install the New Nozzle
- Insert the copper gasket into the new nozzle.
- Screw the nozzle in by hand.
- Tighten the nozzle using the 21 mm wrench to 25 Nm.
- Reinstall the insulation sleeve.
- Secure the sleeve using the two Velcro straps.
- Install the nozzle cover.
- Reinstall the nozzle plate.
- Reinstall the front and top panels.
- Reinstall the hopper.
- Remove the extrusion bib.
- Set Heater 4 back to 0°C.
- Shut down the machine completely.
