Filament Maker X10 – Operating the SmartFlow Hopper

Learn how to prepare, load, and operate the SmartFlow Hopper during extrusion.

Before Starting

Make sure:

  1. The SmartFlow Hopper is correctly installed.
  2. The vibration feeder is connected to the machine.
  3. The hopper is clean and ready for the selected material.
Loading Material
  1. Fill the hopper with the desired extrusion material.
  2. Use the volume indicator on the hopper extension tube to estimate the material volume.

The volume markings provide indications for:

  • Powder
  • Shredded material
  • Pellets

Starting With Material

When starting an extrusion:

  1. Begin with a small amount of material.
  2. Monitor the extrusion output.
  3. Once the flow is stable and free from visible degradation, gradually add more material.

This allows the extrusion process to stabilize before introducing a larger material quantity.

SmartFlow Settings

Configure the SmartFlow Hopper parameters in the material preset according to the form factor of the material being processed.

The appropriate settings depend on whether the material is supplied as:

  • Pellets
  • Shredded material
  • Powder

Once the material preset has been configured:

  1. Enable the SmartFlow Hopper in the machine settings.
  2. Start the extrusion through the touchscreen.
  3. The vibration feeder should operate according to the configured frequency.

💡 Tip: If material does not feed consistently, check the material form factor and SmartFlow settings before increasing the material feed rate.
