Filament Maker X10 – Using the Cooling Fans
Learn how to correctly position the two cooling fans during normal extrusion, purging, and maintenance.
Cooling Fan Movement
The X10 has two identical cooling fans.
Each fan has:
- 60° vertical rotation
- 100° horizontal rotation
The fan direction is important for achieving effective cooling without unnecessarily cooling the nozzle.
During Normal Extrusion
Turn the fans toward the filament.
The fans should generally point toward each other and downward onto the extruded material.
This directs cooling air toward the hot output and helps the material solidify into filament.
During Purging and Maintenance
Turn the fans away from the nozzle when:
- Purging the machine.
- Performing maintenance.
- Working around the extrusion area.
The fans can be directed toward the conveyor belt to increase cooling of the extruded material.
Avoid Direct Cooling of the Nozzle⚠️ Important: Never point the cooling fans directly at the nozzle.
Direct cooling of the nozzle can cause the polymer to solidify prematurely and may lead to clogging.
