Firmware and user interface overview of the Filament Maker TWO

An overview of all features of the user interface of the Filament Maker TWO, easy to learn with these tips and tricks.

Note: The Filament Maker TWO receives regular firmware updates, new features and product improvements. Ensure to check for updates regularly!

The Filament Maker TWO is operated mainly via the touchscreen interface. The interface menu, is used to easily navigate to the available screens:

Home screen

The home screen provides a quick overview of the state of the machine. It displays the key statistics about the current operation of the machine. Each section of the screen has a function, as described below.

  1. Menu. Navigate to the available screens of the machine.
  2. Parameter control. Adjust and review the parameters of the machine.
  3. Visual overview. Visually identify the machine behavior, or change additional extrusion controls.

Temperature control

The temperature of the heaters on the extrusion barrel can be configured here. Use the sliders or + and - sign to set the temperature. Alternatively, tap on the temperature value to bring up the numpad and input your temperature directly. Ensure to confirm your settings to start heating up the system, or to cool down when ending an extrusion.

  1. Set the wished temperatures, for each barrel heater.
  2. Press "Confirm" to apply the new temperatures.
  3. The visual overview and the temperature control bars, reflect the temperature changes.

Speed control

Multiple components contain speed controls to finetune extrusion experiments. The controls are ordered from an operational perspective; first we extrude, than material is guided through the puller and finally we can spool the material.

  1. Set the extruder speed with the + and - buttons, or select the RPM value directly.
  2. Press the "play" button to start extrusion. This button is only active when the temperatures have been reached.
  3. Set the puller speed, press "play" to start the puller. Advanced settings define the output diameter and precise puller control.
  4. Start the spooling procedure. Advanced settings allow to set the material stiffness for improved spooling handling.

Advanced puller settings

The puller determines how the material extruded is pulled to reach the perfect material diameter. Set the diameter and determine the puller adjustment frequency and speed. Ensure to enable "Diameter active control" to automate the puller adjustment process.

Advanced spooling settings

The tensioner defines the amount of tension when spooling the filament. When the tension is too high it will pull on the filament and deform it, when it's too low it might not spool nicely.

Filament data and fan settings

Check and control the current filament output details. If required, change the cooling settings to improve filament output control.

  1. The raw filament data, including; diameter, roundness and filament temperature.
  2. The hopper fan ensures the material stays cool in the hopper, preventing early melting.
  3. The filament fans cool the filament after exiting the nozzle.

System settings

The system settings contain everything you need to set up the machine, connect it to the network and keep it updated to receive the latest firmware features and stability updates.

  1. View notifications about the system; warnings, errors, firmware updates and reminders.
  2. Set the spool dimensions.
  3. Network connection settings (DHCP, Static) and view network details like the machine IP-address.
  4. InfluxDB credentials, to login to the data visualization tool on your PC.
  5. System statistics and update the firmware.
