ER21 - Screw load exceeds maximum force

These troubleshooting steps fix a high screw load of the extrusion system and prevent further system damage.

The screw of the Filament Maker TWO requires too much torque to continue rotation. This can be caused by multiple reasons listed below. Please troubleshoot carefully, as crystallized polymer within the extrusion system might clog the machine entirely when not acting quickly.

Polymer extrusion temperatures too low

Polymer extrusion temperatures are set too low, causing the material to remain too viscous and increasing resistance against the screw. It is advised to extrude material according to the technical specifications and obtain advise directly from 3devo, to prevent future occurrences:

  • Increase the temperatures to improve material viscosity
  • Decrease the screw RPM to reduce overall barrel pressure

Foreign object obstructing the barrel

A foreign object obstructing the barrel, such as residual material from a previous extrusion cycle or an unintended contaminant, can create a mechanical blockage that impedes screw rotation.

Extrusion motor failure

A motor failure may result from sustained overload conditions or prolonged mechanical stress. Such failures can cause the screw to stop rotating entirely, halting the extrusion process and potentially risking further damage to the equipment. Perform purging and cleaning procedures timely and extensively:
