Filament Maker X10 – Material Preparation
Prepare your material correctly before starting an extrusion experiment.
⚠️ Important: Before operating the Filament Maker X10, read the Safety Instructions article and make sure you understand the emergency shutdown procedure.
Verify Material Compatibility
Only use thermoplastic polymers supported by the Filament Maker X10.
Before starting, review Filament Maker X10 – Material Compatibility and confirm that your material is suitable for extrusion.
Keep Material Clean and Dry
Ensure that all material is:
- Clean and free from contaminants.
- Properly dried before extrusion.
- Suitable for the selected extrusion temperature.
Moisture and contaminants can cause material degradation, poor filament quality, and clogging.
Prepare Material to a Uniform Size
Use virgin polymer granulates or powder, or process recycled material into a consistent size before feeding it into the machine.
⚠️ Important: Material particles must be no larger than 4 mm in diameter.
A consistent particle size helps maintain a stable and predictable material feed.
Maintain a Consistent Feed Rate
Always ensure that sufficient material is being supplied to the extruder.
Avoid:
- Sudden surges of material.
- Interruptions in the material supply.
- Allowing the hopper or barrel to run empty.
An inconsistent feed can result in unstable extrusion and inconsistent filament quality.
Never Run the Machine Empty
The Filament Maker X10 cannot safely extrude without sufficient material in the hopper or barrel.
⚠️ Warning: Never attempt to operate the extruder without sufficient material. Running the machine dry can damage internal components.
