The extrusion system maintenance and repair procedures risks and warranty implications explained, from changing the nozzle to removing the extruder screw.
The extrusion system of the Filament Maker ONE consists of four major components, that are essential for successful polymer extrusion. While we encourage to experiment with the machine, the warranty of the Filament Maker ONE is limited to prevent misuse and unnecessary damage to your machine.
If you require a hardware repair on your extrusion system, please read this article carefully:
- Maintenance procedure: Changing the nozzle can be performed autonomously.
- Repair procedure: Customer Service requires to be contacted for repair procedures.
Maintenance procedure
Nozzle
The nozzle of the Filament Maker ONE is a consumable, and you are encouraged to replace it according to our maintenance recommendations. It is safe to replace the nozzle, if you follow our guidelines closely.
The nozzle replacement procedure can be found in the Filament Maker ONE maintenance section.
Repair procedure, Customer Service required
Die head and coupling knee
The Die Head (Yellow) and compression coupling knee (Red) connect the Nozzle to the Barrel of the machine. It connects the Nozzle to the Barrel with a 90 degree angle. The (re)installation procedure of the die head requires specialized tooling and cannot be performed whilst the barrel is installed in the machine. Repairing or replacing the part yourself is not recommended. |
Warning
Do not, under any circumstances, loosen or remove the Die Head and 90 degree connector of the machine. Damage to the Die Head is not covered by warranty. If this occurred somehow or you require it to be replaced, please contact customer service!
Barrel
The barrel of the Filament Maker ONE has two essential components installed on it; the thermocouples and Heaters per heating zone. They can be replaced, but it is required to contact customer service for additional root cause analysis.
Replacement parts
In the case of a thermocouple or heater malfunction, please contact customer service. We can identify what part(s) to replace and help prevent future occurrences.
Screw
The screw of the Filament Maker ONE can be removed for cleaning and replacing purposes, but it's a difficult operation which is not free of risk. We always try to avoid this procedure and find alternative ways to reach your goals, by following maintenance and cleaning procedures first.
