Strange noise from the GP20 Hybrid

Unusual Granulator or Shredder sounds? Learn about their origins and solutions in this article.

Good to know about the machine

While the GP20 Hybrid itself is inherently noisy during operation, it is important to pay attention to any unusual or unfamiliar sounds when it is running. This is particularly crucial after performing maintenance on the machine. This article aims to assist you in addressing and resolving issues before they potentially escalate.

Any unusual metal-to-metal noise is a potential danger, and it is strongly advised to stop the machine immediately and address the issue. Ignoring such noises can lead to machine damage.

1. After deep-cleaning

The most common issue that may occur is after the deep cleaning of the GP20 Hybrid. To resolve this, please refer to the How to clean the GP20 Shredder Hybrid article to ensure that you are performing the cleaning procedure correctly.

Shredder:

If you happen to hear any unusual noises coming from the Shredder unit, it's essential to ensure that the blades are reinstalled correctly, following the instructions provided in the How to install the shredder blades of the GP20 Shredder Hybrid article. If any of the rings or blades are not placed as directed, it can lead to the unwanted noise.

Granulator:

Another potential issue involves the Granulator unit. When cleaning the granulator area and removing the filter screen, it's crucial to ensure correct repositioning. This prevents the granulator knives from contacting the filter screen, which may produce a metal-on-metal noise pattern. If this occurs, promptly stop the machine and reposition the filter screen correctly.

Detailed instructions are available in the How to Open the GP20 Granulator and Remove the Filter Screen article.

If you are unable to identify the source of the sound, it is advisable to discontinue using the machine and get in touch with our support team for assistance.

2. Granulator misalignment

While we carefully position all the knives during production, it is possible that changes may occur over time. In such cases, it is essential to recheck and realign the blades to ensure that the Granulator knives do not come into contact with the alignment plate.

Detecting an issue with the knives is straightforward.

First, stop the machine and disconnect the power cable.

Then, open the Granulator door and manually turn the rotor to check if the knives make contact with each other. If you can see that they reach each other please follow the instructions that are available in the How to adjust the GP20 Granulator knives article.

warning-iso_V2 Warning
If you need to remove the rotor or knives from the rotor, it's essential to use Loctite 243 when reattaching the screws. The Loctite is responsible for ensuring the safe operation of the machine. Without it, the screws may loosen, potentially causing damage to the machine unit.

Note

If you are not able to identify or solve the problem, it is advisable to discontinue using the machine and get in touch with our support team for further assistance.
