Filament Maker X10 – Filament Sensor Calibration
The Filament Sensor measures the diameter of the produced filament. Because the sensor is an open system, dust and polymer residue can affect its performance over time. The Filament Maker X10 includes a dedicated calibration procedure to verify that the sensor is measuring correctly.
When Should the Sensor Be Calibrated?
Calibrate the Filament Sensor when:
- The measured filament diameter does not correspond to the physical diameter of the produced filament.
- The annual maintenance interval has been reached, according to the Filament Maker X10 – Maintenance Schedule
- Sensor performance needs to be verified.
Calibration Kit
The Filament Sensor Calibration Kit is included with the Filament Maker X10 maintenance kit.
It contains calibration rods with different diameters, allowing the sensor to be calibrated accurately.
Calibration Procedure
The calibration procedure is performed through the X10 software interface.
For the detailed calibration procedure, refer to the online instructions: Sensor Calibration
💡 Tip: Always follow the calibration procedure carefully and use the supplied calibration rods for the most reliable results.
If Calibration Fails
If the Filament Sensor calibration is unsuccessful:
- Turn OFF the Filament Maker X10.
- Allow the extrusion area to cool completely.
- Clean the Filament Sensor according to Filament Maker X10 – Routine Cleaning and Inspection.
- Repeat the calibration procedure.
If calibration continues to fail after cleaning, further troubleshooting or support may be required.
Next Step
If calibration is successful, return to the extrusion workflow: Filament Maker X10 – Material Preparation
Previous Step
If calibration failed, clean the Filament Sensor before attempting calibration again: Filament Maker X10 – Routine Cleaning and Inspection
Recommended Maintenance & Calibration Flow
I would structure this part of the X10 knowledge base as:
Maintenance Schedule
↓
Routine Cleaning and Inspection
↓
Filament Sensor Calibration
↓
Nozzle Replacement / Configuration Changes (when required)
↓
Screw Removal and Internal Cleaning (optional, when required)
This keeps the routine maintenance flow separate from more advanced procedures, which should make the X10 KB much easier for customers to navigate and reduces the chance that customers interpret screw removal as normal routine maintenance.
